On the distant planet of Astera, humans and animal-like Kin have built a fragile life together. For three years, a strange train has traveled across the planet, carrying something almost everyone wants-a precious supply of root beer. But root beer isn't the only thing that disappears. During a routine inventory, Jupiter notices that one barrel is missing. No one saw it being taken, and only a careful double-check reveals the theft.
When a mysterious wolf-like Kin in a black cloak is spotted near the train, Jupiter becomes convinced he's responsible. So she decides to hunt him down. Ronan doesn't want to be found.
