Sometimes the best choice is the one we wish we never had to makeAfter the betrayal of a close friend, both Liddy and Will were forced to flee Mortalia. Their harrowing escape, made possible only by the sacrifice of a loved one, has left them broken and traumatized. The transport to Cristes didn't go as smoothly as they'd hoped. Liddy is fighting to overcome devastating injuries while struggling with guilt over the actions and decisions that led her to this point.
Meanwhile, Will is torn between his loyalty to Liddy and his growing obligations to Cristes. To make matters worse, Cristes is on the brink of war and the return of Liddy and Will has brought the added threat of the Witch right to its weakened doors. When Nick unveils his plan to prevent destruction and squash Mara's plots of revenge, the leadership of Cristes finds itself divided, and so do Liddy and Will.
