Résumé

A new, feudal culture has emerged from the ruins of a long-lost technological civilization, judged by God and destroyed for unfathomable sins.  Most vestiges of the distant past are lost, or languishing in haunted, toxic ruins.  A few isolated documents and artefacts remain, to tantalize scholars or to be fought over. Politics is dominated by rivalries between the King and the noble families, all seeking power and prestige, and by tensions between the religious andsecular authorities.
Disputes among the elite are settled by armed knights on horseback while, for ordinary folk, life goes on as it did for centuries before industrialization: an endless round of sowing and harvest, making and mending, buying and selling.  Meanwhile, bandits and raiders on the margins of society seek to undermine it. The Kingdom of the Last Days series follows the fortunes of four families of differing social stations, as they attempt to navigate the political turmoil, before eventually being drawn together in murder, betrayal, and revenge.
