In this 6th book of the Storyteller series, Master Bard Gwernin Storyteller first participates in a bardic initiatory ritual or Taliesin Ben Beirdd's student Mael, then goes to Ireland with the two of them and his son Ianto in order to visit their friend the Archdruid Fráechán mac Tenusán again. In the process, Gwernin hears more stories of the ancient Druid Mac Criomthann, witnesses the fate Fráechán had once foretold for High King Diarmait mac Cerbaill, and learns something about himself at the Well of Wisdom which he had never imagined.
