Résumé

The Way of Boys by renowned psychologist Dr. Anthony Rao is an important wake-up call to the dangers of over-medicating our male children and our current tendency to treat their active boyhood as an illness. Dr. Rao raises a much-needed alarm in this essential volume that belongs in every parent's collection alongside Raising Cain by Michael Thompson. In these times when many parents, concerned about ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, and bipolar disorder, may be dangerously misinterpreting their young sons' healthy, normal development process, The Way of Boys is must reading.  Why are so many boys being diagnosed with behavioral problems-and what can parents do to encourage healthy development without resorting to medication? Healthy Boyhood Development: Learn why your son's energy, impulsivity, and even aggression are often normal parts of his development, not signs of an illness.
Parenting Strategies Without Medication: Discover practical, research-proven behavioral therapies to manage tantrums, improve focus, and build social skills without prescriptions. Understanding Common Diagnoses: Get a clear-eyed look at ADHD, Asperger's Syndrome, and bipolar disorder, and understand why these labels are so often misapplied to young boys. Building Social and Emotional Skills: From making friends to managing frustration, get concrete advice from Dr.
Rao to help your son navigate the social challenges of growing up.
