Résumé
For centuries, many Christians have taken it for granted that the idea of eternal damnation in Hell is a fundamental truth of Scripture, but this idea is neither foundational, nor as old as is often claimed. The earliest writings of the Church not only fail to mention the idea, but the idea of ultimate reconciliation that the Apostolic Fathers wrote on even rejects it entirely. There are any number of poorly conceived ideas based on inaccurate interpretations of Scripture.
This work looks closely at the words of Scripture, including the original Hebrew and Greek, and the writings of the early Church, in order to refute the idea of eternal conscious torment and support instead the apokatastasis-ultimate reconciliation-that was taught long before the word "hell" was ever inserted into the translation. It may just be that the healing and redeeming power of God is far greater than what many have been lead to believe.
