Résumé
In a world of cats and their Cat Scribes, Mathias, a certain grey tabby cat, has been searching for the person he's meant to be with. He finds her, a seventeen-year-old orphan girl named March. The two of them would like nothing more than to spend their their time together, maybe reading a book, or perhaps taking a nap (Mathias' preferred activity). Instead, they embark on an adventure to help a new friend, an adventure that takes them into the Valley of the Dogs.
Aside from having packs of dogs roaming about, the Valley happens to be an impenetrable maze from which no human has ever returned. But none of those humans had a cat as a companion. In the course of their adventure, Mathias and March make friends, both human and cat alike, and some dogs, too. Eventually, they do get around to book-reading (and napping), but only after they deal with ne'er-do-wells who seem bent on making things bad for everyone else.
They also uncover quite a number of mysteries about the Valley of the Dogs, about cats, and even about March. The Valley of the Dogs is approximately 52, 000 words long.
