After an eighteen month hiatus, Edward Virr and the crew of the sentient starship Gabriel find themselves getting a little restless and craving a bit of adventure. Admiral Bache Loftt comes to their rescue, with a relatively simple request, to check the status of one of his vessel's. The oldest ship in the fleet, the Lytrotis, patrolling on the far side of the Milky Way has gone silent. What they find on arrival, proves both shocking and extremely concerning.
To unravel the truth, they are forced to exploit their previously discovered alien gateway to a galaxy almost three million light years away. Someone, or something, is attempting to exterminate all biological life from an entire galaxy.
