Résumé

Meet Lowan, a telepathic alien working as a private detective in the 1930s!Lowan and Marx face off with the third and final member of the insurance syndicate: Raymond Mercer-who proves to be the most elusive and dangerous of them all. In the shadowy corridors of a hospital steeped in secrets and death, Lowan finds himself drawn into a tangled web of medical malpractice that reaches to the highest levels of the hospital's management.
A series of unexplained patient deaths and a trail of forged medical records reveal a plot involving insurance fraud, poison, and secret identities. Before Lowan and Marx can find the answers, more witnesses are killed to hide the truth. The crimes carry Mercer's fingerprints, and yet he remains as invisible as a ghost. Undercover at the hospital, Lowan's relentless pursuit of justice pulls him deeper into a conspiracy that could cost him everything.
Hidden forces tighten their grip, but the truth remains just out of reach-until the next shocking twist. Will Lowan unravel the answers before he becomes the next casualty?S. E. Grosskopf's writing is strongly influenced by the old pulp fiction magazines and Golden Age radio dramas of the 1930s-1950s. If you like fast-paced action and mystery with a dash of urban fantasy and quirkiness, then you'll love these books.
This is the seventeenth book in the series. The books follow chronologically. Reading them in order is recommended.
I grew up listening to old radio programs on NPR.  Mysteries were always my favorite, especially The Shadow.  When I found out that there were Shadow books also, and that the books were way better than the radio program, I ended up reading over a hundred of them.  Along with copious amounts of Doc Savage and just about everything by Edgar Rice Burroughs. And that was my introduction to pulp fiction.
Fast-paced action, larger-than-life heroes and dastardly villains, clever dialogue, and one plot twist after another.  Never a dull moment.  I couldn't get enough of it. In college, I double majored in English and History.  My history professor once said to me, "You like the 1930s?  You should read The Great Gatsby. It's the most exciting book ever!"My response?  "It's just people sitting around talking to each other.  It needs more car chases and gunfights!"Ah, well .
