Résumé

The earth does not shake. It tears-and something ancient rises from beneath the border between two rival kingdoms. When enormous root structures erupt across the contested lands separating Elyndor and Knightmere, Lady Saelira Denmir leads an expedition to investigate. Within the tangled ruins, she discovers a dying construct built from wood, stone, and rune-worked metal. It turns toward her, speaks a single command-Remember-and dissolves into ash.
Across the border, Prince Kaelor Brimholt feels the same inexplicable recognition when he hears the construct's final word. Their kingdoms have spent centuries defining themselves through opposition. Elyndor views Knightmere as an aggressive power waiting for an excuse to invade. Knightmere believes Elyndor has buried dangerous knowledge beneath treaties and political restraint. Now both courts claim authority over the newly exposed ruins, while their councils dismiss warnings, suppress records, and prepare for renewed conflict.
Defying orders, Saelira descends into the ancient tunnels with her most trusted companions. Kaelor enters from the opposing side with soldiers of his own. Their expeditions collide beneath the border, where runic pillars, dormant constructs, and forgotten forges reveal the remains of Draeloth-a civilization deliberately erased from both kingdoms' histories. The roots spreading beneath the land are not merely ruins.
They are part of a living system awakening after three thousand years. Something imprisoned within it is rising, and the divisions between Elyndor and Knightmere may be the very weapon that frees it. To stop the destruction above and below, Saelira and Kaelor must decide whether they can trust the enemy standing before them more than the rulers waiting behind them. The ancient forge offers one final instruction: it will answer only when rival blades are crossed.
The Roots of Ruin launches Crossed Swords, an epic fantasy adventure of forbidden history, rival kingdoms, underground expeditions, political betrayal, ancient magic, and two heirs forced to confront the truths buried beneath their nations' foundations.
