Résumé
The resurrection of Christ is not merely a passing religious event; it is a monumental historical claim. If true, it changed the course of history; if false, the very core of the Christian faith collapses with it. For this reason, it cannot be treated as a purely devotional or spiritual matter but as a case that deserves careful examination, rigorous testing, and honest questioning. This book does not ask the reader to accept its conclusions in advance.
Rather, it invites them on an intellectual journey in which the resurrection is examined from multiple angles, using the tools of different disciplines-much as major cases are examined in courtrooms, investigation offices, halls of history, circles of theology, and forums of rational defence of the faith. We will view the Gospels as testimonies presented in a court of law, weighing their credibility according to the rules of evidence.
We will pursue the evidence with the eye of a detective-examining motives, testing alternative hypotheses, and listening even to hostile witnesses. We will place the event within its Jewish and Roman context through the lens of the historian, asking the following: Do we possess reliable history? We will then move to theology-not to abandon reason, but to understand what the resurrection reveals about God, the cross, and the plan of redemption.
Finally, we will address objections and questions with the voice of the apologist, not in a spirit of confrontation but with logic, grace, and compassion for honest doubt. This work does not claim academic originality, nor does it presume to surpass the great minds that preceded it. Rather, it is a humble attempt to listen and learn, then distil the conclusions of leading thinkers and scholars in these fields into clear, focused points that allow the reader to grasp the full picture without unnecessary complexity.
