Résumé

Legend has it that when the time comes, all those who need to come together will be drawn together and that all those things that need to happen will happen. The members of an ancient order, 'The Brydda' most definitely believe, but revealing themselves means risk of death. Meanwhile, a young warrior queen, facing potential rebellion on her borders, draws her troops together to assert her authority, despite the risk of sparking civil war.
Elsewhere, a young maid to a noblelady, fleeing for her life after she is assaulted, finds refuge in an unexpected place, where memories flood her mind from a past that could never have been. Not far away, when an inn keeper finds himself hosting a guest who is a soldier returning from a foreign war and a guest who is a constable on a mission from the king, events begin to take an unexpected and very dangerous turn.
Are these events merely chance? Are they no more than simple coincidence? Or is this really the time that was foretold. 'The Quickening'?
