Résumé
Valery is a 14-year-old girl who suffers from loneliness. Her strange features made it hard for her to fit in among her peers. When Miss Dickson offers her the opportunity to attend a different school, Valery is weary at first. Until a glowing butterfly appeared in her room and turned into a magical invitation to the Archive. The school Miss Dickson had mentioned wasn't just any school. It was a school for gifted individuals, whether they wielded Talents or Runic magic. Arriving at the Archival, Valery's strange features still made her stand out, but for the first time she had friends who supported her.
She discovers that she had a rare Talent that raised curious questions with no immediate answers. A Talent that proves difficult to learn and be controlled. The magic wasn't the most exciting part of her new school. The older kids took part in a dangerous sport called dragon wars, which was a brutal race between four teams on the backs of dragons in the attempts to win the champion egg as the final trophy.
A sport the new apprentices weren't allowed to play yet. One Valery accidentally proved her unknown skills at. Valery soon discovers that not everything is magical and epic at the Archive. Especially not when a boy in her Wing keeps pointing out her failures. Or when the back of her mind tingles and when she turned around, she'd find Lorcan Bane glaring at her. A strange pull kept bringing them together, no matter how hard they fought to stay apart.
The worst part was when kids started disappearing from the Archive without a trace, just like it happened at towns all across the Albian world. When her friends were taken and the Archive was attacked, it was Valery and a very unlikely alliance with a jealous Naomi, who went after the Piper to get their friends back. The odds were not in their favor and the enemy they faced was more than what they expected.
Defeating the Piper came at a great cost and nearly cost Valery her life. With the Piper defeated, the Archive restored and the kids returned, there was only one thing left to do. Celebrate the end of their apprentice year. The answers to Valery's questions and the future of her power could wait for now.
