Résumé

The fourteen weeks of the second Trump administration, during which the executive's installed disposition became the federal government's daily operating condition, recorded week by week. The Trump Chronicles, Volume 2: The Patronage State is a documentary record of March 15 through June 20, 2025 - weeks 9 through 22 of the second Trump administration's first year, written for the historical record.
Across fourteen weekly chapters and a synthesis chapter, the volume documents the executive actions, agency directives, court rulings, and constitutional confrontations of the period: the use of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport Venezuelan nationals to a Salvadoran prison while a federal court's restraining order was being entered; the imposition of broad-based tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act; the withholding of billions in federal research funding from Harvard and other universities that resisted administration demands; the executive orders targeting law firms for representing the administration's opponents; the federalization of the California National Guard and the deployment of active-duty Marines to Los Angeles over the governor's objection; the handcuffing of Senator Alex Padilla at a federal press conference; the deportation of a two-year-old U.
S. citizen to Honduras; the House passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on a single-vote margin; the No Kings demonstrations of June 14; and the same-morning assassinations of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. Each event is recorded with the date, actor, and mechanism, and sourced to canonical reporting and federal documentary records. Inclusion requires corroboration by at least two canonical outlets, federal documentary support, or attribution to a single named source.
Three appendices provide reference material: a chronology of the fourteen weeks; a glossary of the mechanisms by which executive authority was exercised; and the canonical source set on which the chronicle rests. Written from Brisbane, Australia, by an American observer, this is the second volume of a continuing chronicle of the administration's term - a reference for citizens, scholars, journalists, and historians who need to follow the federal record without polemic or omission.
