Résumé

Like Asimov did in his FOUNDATION series with the "Encyclopedia Galactica" , each section is given a lead in to the historical context of the far future. Princess Maggio (the first settlers of various worlds establishing more or less royal lines) is an archaeologist scholar, popular like movie stars of our time, her "blogs" of her adventures and stories of the 2000 years of the Space Ages followed by her public.
She is in the Pleiades on a semi-waterworld called "Caldris" because of its vulcanism (a caldron). Chronicling the rise to power of Deneb, the Imperial war that followed, and the advent of Hyper-dimensional intrusions by demonic entities...she begins as the beginning of Lourdes Charlotte Cassandra's rise to power; the character arc of an ordinary scientist who will be empress to the largest and most powerful forces the human race has ever assembled. "The shift in power from the Sol System to the Deneb System and the conflicts of the era seem inevitable from our long view back.
For someone living in the twenty-fifth century, however, the violence, sudden reversals, and advances among the star systems must have most certainly seemed a jarring billiards game of worlds. It was an obscure Medical Research facility on one of a hundred bustling boom-worlds that would come to define the age. A dashing young scientist, Lourdes Cassandra appears on the Galactic stage as if at the weightless moment of an apogee.-Princess Clairissa Maggio, Caldris, "Deneb IV, Empire of Light and Darkness."
