Résumé
The Ming Dynasty began in war, hunger, and rebellion. The Yuan government was failing, the Yellow River was flooding, and ordinary people were losing faith in the rulers who were supposed to protect them. Out of this chaos rose Zhu Yuanzhang, a poor orphan who had once begged for food and lived as a monk. In 1368, he drove out the Mongol-led Yuan court and founded a new dynasty. This book tells the story of the Ming, from its violent beginnings to its years of power, wealth, and change.
It follows the emperors who rebuilt the state, the officials and scholars who shaped its government, and the farmers, craftsmen, merchants, and soldiers whose labor held the empire together. It also introduces Zheng He, the great admiral whose fleets sailed across the Indian Ocean to Southeast Asia, India, Arabia, and East Africa. The Ming world was full of contradictions. It produced blue-and-white porcelain, great novels, new technologies, and ambitious building projects, including major work on the Great Wall.
It also faced corruption, court struggles, border wars, and growing pressure from inside and outside the empire. This is the story of a dynasty that restored Chinese rule, expanded China's reach, and left a lasting mark on Chinese history. This is the 6th book in the Dynasties of Ancient China series of graded readers for English speakers learning to read Simplified Chinese. The book uses 994 Chinese words, most of which are in the HSK-4 vocabulary.
It includes a pinyin version and a complete English translation, and a glossary that defines all Chinese words used. This makes it ideal for learners who want to improve their language skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture.
