Gbekude, a lonely old man  treasures one thing above all else-his orange tree. The tree is always heavy with sweet, golden fruit, but Gbekude refuses to share even a single orange with the hungry children who pass by his home each day. Tired of the children stealing from him, Gbekude visits a mysterious village wizard named Ikumejakako, who gives him a magical cloth that can trap anyone who touches the tree.
Gbekude is delighted-until one evening when a far more terrifying visitor arrives at his doorstep. The visitor is Death itself. Thinking quickly, Gbekude tricks Death into climbing the orange tree, where the magical cloth traps the shadowy figure forever among the branches. Soon, strange things begin happening in the village. Old people stop dying. Sick people recover on their own. Even animals seem to live forever.
As whispers spread through the village, the once-feared old miser becomes a legend-the man who trapped Death.
