Résumé
The Long Farewell to Immanuel Kant: On the End of the Dictatorship of ReasonImmanuel Kant-presumed lighthouse of the Enlightenment, alleged architect of modern reason, putative pioneer of human rights. Germany enthusiastically celebrated its national monument on the occasion of Kant's 300th birth anniversary in 2024. But what if this image is an illusion? Heinz W. Droste ventures a frontal assault on the myths surrounding the work of the philosopher from Königsberg.
With the precision of a philosopher of science and the sharp eye of a sociologist, he dismantles the edifice of Kant's thought piece by piece. He shows: Kant's true project was not the liberation of thought but the rescue of Lutheran faith from the radical, materialist Enlightenment. His philosophy is not a plea for freedom but an a priori justification for an authoritarian dictatorship of reason that places obedience above autonomy of thought. From a flawed cosmology to the solipsistic, subject-centered, and world-averse idealism, and on to the racist foundation of his anthropology and a merciless theory of punishment-this book reveals a thinker who today stands more in our way than he points the way forward.
A provocative and long overdue reassessment of a "national saint." What you will discover in this book: The dismantling of "Kantian Memes": A unique "memetic" expedition that exposes the deeply rooted myths surrounding Kant's philosophical theses. The Illusion of the "Copernican Revolution": How Kant's epistemology is revealed as a regressive, solipsistic idealism that sacrifices empirical reality in favor of an unprovable moral postulate.
Kant's Authoritarian Legacy: The uncovering of a political philosophy that rejected democratic principles as "despotism" and built a theory of the state on an authoritarian construction. A Path to Modern Rationality: A compelling argument for moving beyond the dictatorship of Kantian reason toward a truly secular, rational future. About the Author Dr. Heinz W. Droste is a sociologist, psychologist, and philosopher of science.
After completing his doctorate in Düsseldorf (supervised by the sociologist Richard Münch and the philosopher Lutz Geldsetzer), he spent decades working as a strategic communications consultant for leading corporations. His parallel research interests center on the methodology of the social sciences and the analysis of public discourse. He honed his analytical tools in dialogue with leading international researchers such as the philosopher of science Mario Bunge and the cognitive psychologist Keith Stanovich.
This book is the sum of his interdisciplinary engagement with the genesis and impact of philosophical concepts.
