Résumé

When the good ship St. Nicholas sailed from the port of Piraeus, none among its crew knew this trip would be their last. Nor could anything have prepared them for the nightmarish creature that rose from sunless depths to claim them. Worst of all, no one had instructed them how to answer the creature's question: "Is He Alive?"In this stunning work, Dimitris Vanellis and Nikolas Kourtis craft a modern tale of terror on the high seas, based on one of the scariest legends in Greek folklore.
Dimitris Vanellis was born in Lesvos Island and has lived in Athens since 1976, where he works in the Library of the School of Fine Arts. Since 1990, he has worked with many Greek comic artists, providing the script for stories, most of them published in magazines. With co-scriptwriter D. Kalaitzis and artist Spyros Derveniotis, Dimitris created the character Fanouris Aplas, who starred in four albums all published by Mamouth Comics.
Since 2011, he has collaborated with Thanasis Petrou on several albums, including "Pararlama and other stories of Demosthenes Voutiras, " "The Yousouri...", "The Great Week of Prezakis, " based on a short story by M. Karagatsis (all published by Topos editions), and "Giannoulis Halepas, the myth of modern Greek sculpture" (Patakis, 2018). His latest work is "The Loneliness of the Abyss" (Jemma Press, 2022/Europe Comics, 2023), in cooperation with artist Nikolas Kourtis.
He is also the author of four books set in the sci-fi and fantasy genre, as well as many articles for the press. Early in his life Nikolas Kourtis was fascinated by the art of comics. His first works were published in Babel comics magazine in the early '90s. For the past three decades, he has illustrated many magazine articles and book covers. "The Loneliness of the Abyss" is his second graphic novel, right on the heels of "Berlin: First Death, " both published in Greece by Jemma Press.
