In "The Little Bird and the Lost Hat, " Pip the bird loses his hat in the forest just before it begins to rain. His friends-Sunny, Maple, Hoot, and Fern-help him search through the woods, near a brook, a meadow, a pond, and a thicket. Even as the rain starts falling, they don't give up. Finally, Fern spots Pip's yellow hat tucked safely under a mossy stone. Maple gently places it back on Pip's head, and they all return home happily, warmed by friendship despite the rainy weather.
