Résumé

This historical fiction novel tells the story of a pagan man from Asia Minor named Leandros and his spiritual journey toward discovering Christ and the Christian faith. Set in the first century CE, within the context of the Roman Empire's persecution of early Christians, the novel explores themes of faith, sacrifice, and the enduring power of belief. Leandros, a successful merchant in Ephesus, is initially drawn to Christianity after witnessing the quiet strength of the Christians around him.
Despite the risk, he seeks out the Apostle John and other Christian leaders to understand the faith more deeply. Through his encounters, Leandros' life is transformed, and he eventually becomes a follower of Christ. However, his new faith brings challenges, as he must navigate the dangers of Roman persecution and the possibility of martyrdom. As the story unfolds, Leandros is arrested and executed for his beliefs, but his death becomes a catalyst for the conversion of Marcus, a Roman citizen who had once been a skeptic.
Marcus, inspired by Leandros' unwavering faith, embraces Christianity and becomes an active member of the Christian community in Ephesus. Alongside fellow believers like Linus and Phoebe, Marcus faces increasing persecution, but the light of his faith shines even in the face of death. The novel ultimately highlights the growth of the early Christian church, the struggles faced by its members, and the powerful legacy of the martyrs.
It emphasizes the transformative power of faith, love, and peace, even in a world marked by violence and oppression. Through the lives of Leandros, Marcus, and others, the novel illustrates how the seeds of faith sown in sacrifice bear fruit in the hearts of future generations, demonstrating the enduring truth of the Gospel. The story concludes with the next wave of Christian persecution, led by the Roman authorities, but the faith of the Christian community in Ephesus remains unshaken, embodying the hope and courage that defines early Christianity.
