The number on the laundry ticket should not exist. Mara Reyes knows the machines in her aunt's 24-hour Cleveland laundromat better than she knows how to sleep. The worn dryers, the late-night regulars, the folding tables, the hum of fluorescent light - all of it has been part of her life for years. Then a beloved delivery driver is found dead inside the locked dryer room, and the police treat it like a robbery gone wrong.

And buried in the lost-and-found bag is a laundry ticket with numbers that do not belong to any machine in the building. What looks like a receipt becomes a map. As Mara follows the coded ticket through fake app reviews, shell company paperwork, property transfers, and the quiet pressure closing in on her neighborhood, she discovers Jorge had been documenting something much bigger than one bad night.
Someone has been using ordinary systems - ratings, leases, cameras, paperwork - to erase people who were already struggling to be seen. But the closer Mara gets to the truth, the more the laundromat itself becomes a threat. The evidence points outward, then back home. Her aunt Celia knows more than she has said. The businesses around them are watching each other. And someone wants Mara to stop asking about the driver.
