Résumé

PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder is a chronic, often life threatening, medical condition that gets worse over time. For some women with PMDD the primary symptoms are anxiety, tension, irritability, or anger. For some small percentage the primary symptom is Rage and the partners of those women are often caught in the crosshairs of that Rage. Some of those partners find their way to the subreddit this book is based on.
The Last Desperate Flail is about the impact that Rage can have on the entire family. It is better for the entire family if the disorder can be managed and the relationship healed. That is not always possible. Each situation is different and we always hope for the best outcome. At the same time we always look out for the partner. Nobody else is going to. The Last Desperate Flail addresses the impact severe, untreated, unmanaged, sometimes unacknowledged, PMDD has on the partnership.
What to do in a crisis. How to avoid a crisis in the first place. When the Rage crosses the line into Abuse. How to put a plan in place to keep everyone safe. And when it's time, or well past time, to look after yourself for a change. This book is not a general statement on PMDD or the 'average' experience of those with the diagnosis. It is specifically by, for, and about the partners of those facing extreme, treatment-resistant, or unacknowledged PMDD.
It documents a specific reality that is often silenced, and is intended as a survival and safety resource for those in the midst of that crisis.
