Résumé

Some houses remember the women who entered them. Greystones House writes them into its walls. When Éabha Ní Raghallaigh arrives in Greystones, County Wicklow, she believes she has been chosen for an elite academic scholarship at a private women's foundation devoted to Irish folklore, ritual language, and cultural preservation. The house above the grey sea is beautiful, severe, and watchful, with locked rooms, old portraits, a forbidden salt garden, and seven rules every scholar must obey.
At the centre of the Foundation's work is a mysterious manuscript known as Leabhar na mBan Liath, The Book of the Grey Women. Its language is said to belong to a forgotten female tradition, one passed through mourning, secrecy, blood, and the body itself. The manuscript names this forbidden language An Teanga Chraicinn, the Skin Tongue. It is a language built through flesh. A wound can become a word.
A scar can become a sentence. A body can become a book. As Éabha is drawn deeper into the scholarship of Greystones House, she becomes entangled with Iseult Ní Chathasaigh, a brilliant and dangerous student whose fascination with the manuscript hides a private inheritance of grief, obsession, and betrayal. Around them, the other women begin to change. Marks appear on skin. Old names rise from beneath the soil.
The salt garden calls from beyond the locked gate. The house begins to answer in voices that should have been dead for centuries. The more Éabha translates, the more the manuscript seems to know her. The more she desires Iseult, the less certain she becomes that desire belongs only to the living. And beneath Greystones House, the Grey Women are waiting for the final phrase to be spoken. The Girls of Greystones House is an Irish Gothic dark academia novel of forbidden language, female obsession, haunted scholarship, coastal dread, and the terrifying power of a body that refuses to stay silent.
