The Exception Clause is book one in The Bloom Chronicles by Jason Halstead. Nyx Bloom is an independent salvage specialist- no, that doesn't mean she's a pirate. She and her devoted sexbot-upgraded-to-first mate, Zelda, search the galaxy on her utility ship for the ruins of alien civilizations, scuttled starships, and the occasional overlooked asteroid full of rare ore.
