At St. Vitale Cancer Institute, Dr. Caelum Virex discovers that a compound turns dying patients' tissues into perfect black diamonds. What begins as a secret scientific pursuit becomes obsession as the gems pulse with stored consciousness. Virex believes he's achieved immortality; his assistant sees only horror.
