Résumé
Miss Clara Wetherell has inherited Brambleford Hall. It is not much of an inheritance, according to everyone else. The roof leaks, the accounts are dreadful, the servants are loyal in a worrying sort of way, and the East Wing is said to be haunted by a vanished bride. To Clara, it is wonderful. For the first time in her life, she has a home of her own. Unfortunately, the estate comes with a complication no one thought to mention: Nathaniel Blackmoor, Duke of Ravenscar.
Nathaniel arrives with polished boots, a solicitor, and the firm belief that Brambleford Hall was promised to his family. Clara refuses to surrender the only thing that has ever truly belonged to her, while Nathaniel refuses to walk away from the house tied to his mother's past. Then the will reveals its most inconvenient condition. Before ownership can be decided, Clara and Nathaniel must reside at Brambleford Hall together for thirty days.
Clara is certain there must be a way around it. A loophole. A forgotten letter. A legal mistake. Anything that will save her from sharing a roof with an arrogant duke and becoming the subject of every whisper in the county. But Brambleford Hall has other plans. Between leaking ceilings, suspicious noises, meddling servants, village gossip, and a duke who is far more difficult to dislike than he ought to be, Clara's search for escape begins to look dangerously like the beginning of something else.
