Résumé

In the heart of a world inhabited by animals, a clumsy and naïve donkey becomes, through a strange twist of fate, the king of a forest. But his reign is short-lived. Driven from his kingdom and rejected by everyone, he sets out on a long journey accompanied by a cunning and opportunistic fox. Throughout their adventures, the two companions travel through villages, forests, and an ancient kingdom ruled by superstition and irrational beliefs.
Through another turn of destiny, the donkey is taken into the royal palace and becomes the favorite of a young prince. Amid misunderstandings, conspiracies, unexpected friendships, and impossible love, the donkey finds himself, in turn, a king, a prisoner, a hero, and a fugitive. His journey, both funny and moving, leads him to discover the true value of friendship, loyalty, and freedom.
Fakhreddin Heydari is a writer and the author of Kharshah (The Donkey King), an allegorical animal story that blends imagination, humor, and social reflection. Born in Baghdad, with roots in the Kurdish regions of Iran, Heydari's life has been shaped by different cultures and languages. He spent around ten years in Baghdad, later lived in Tehran, and experienced statelessness until the age of forty-two due to the absence of official identity documents.
After moving to Belgium, he continued his literary work. The Donkey King has been translated into French and English and presents a symbolic world of animals exploring power, deception, ambition, and human behavior. With its rich imagination and universal themes, the story has strong potential for adaptation into film or animation
