Résumé

John Easterling, an experienced investigative reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, covers the police blotter for the city. He stumbles upon a bizarre case of child murders and mutilations. He isn't restricted by the police's limited view of the world that crimes are committed only by people; other forces haunt places like Lincoln Park. On his journey, he gains invaluable help from Lorraine, a physic who holds a secret: She is a Nephilim, a child of angels, as is her brother Evan.
They appear human until they unfurl their wings and take flight and some of them have paranormal powers. When Barry, an archaeologist at the University of Chicago, who unearthed the legendary ring of Solomon on a dig in the Middle East, shows the ring to John, it attaches to him and endows him with power to fight demons. Chicago cops Mario and Andy Z join the search team, along with Ellen, John's girlfriend, who, as chair of the UC Department of Archaeology, lends her expertise.
Together, John and his colleagues delve into the dangerous world of demons, witches, trolls, goblins, and devils, coming face to face with Agrat bat Mahlat, Queen of Demons, fighting their way through five circles of Hell.
