Résumé

Beitris' mother was a priestess of the Nicneven order, her father the philandering fae king. The only reason she was ever allowed to draw breath is because he was not aware that her mother had fallen pregnant. She spent years hiding away in the sacred grove that she cultivated with her own hands, masquerading as a wizened old crone. For the past forty-two years, she devoted her talents to the MacInnon clan and their brooding Laird, lending her gift of sight to their cause for the greater good.
Now that her father has been defeated by her half-brother, Aldryd, and herself placed upon a throne she'd neither wanted nor cared for, she is expected to find a fae husband to rule at her side and provide heirs with strong fae blood. If only any of these pompous, preening fae courtiers struck her fancy. Some in the fae Court are not happy to have a halfblooded monarch, and with her otherworldly sight rendered completely useless in the land of the fae, she is blindsided when someone ambushes her in her own bedchamber.
She escapes, but only just barely, fleeing into the deepest reaches of the enchanted fae forest. Now she not only needs to survive the terrifying creatures of the wood as she attempts to make her way back through the portal to the mortal realm at the other side of the vast forest, she must also attempt to figure out what treacherous snake is hiding back in her Court. While nearly meeting her death in the slavering jaws of a rabid fae beast, she is rescued by the stoic yet charming lower fae being, Grimloch, who happens to be one of her brother's oldest friends.
Grimloch is fae, but only just. He is Fomhóirí, strong and fierce compared to his fair-folk cousins and treated as a second-class citizen. He preferers to remain deep within the forest of the fae realm, close to the sea, detesting the castle dwelling fae that treat his kind as creatures only suited for hard labor in their gemstone mines. He would rather pluck out his own eyes than visit that place again, but when he rescues the new half-blood fae queen from a Nuckelavee near his home, he finds himself at the mercy of something far more powerful than his own prejudices- his fated mate.
