Résumé

"If you want to be free, you must be willing to pay the price." -Pancho Villa?Gossip travels fast. and so does revolution. As social tensions rise and loyalties are questioned, Esperanza finds herself caught in the middle of a high-stakes power struggle between the poor street musician she loves and the wealthy aristocrat she is unwillingly betrothed to. Refusing to be used as a pawn in Don Raúl's deadly game, Esperanza must find a way to win back her own freedom before Arturo loses his.
But freedom comes at a price, and Esperanza soon discovers that she will need to make sacrifices if she wants to protect the people she loves. even if that means having to fight her battles alone. As revolution sweeps across Mexico, families are divided and alliances broken... but when social boundaries begin to crumble, could love be the one thing that survives? "The Cost of Rubies is the thrilling sequel to The Price of Gold, with plenty of swashbuckling action, heartbreaking romance and characters so realistic they might step off the page.
I couldn't put it down - and nor will you!"
Rachel comes from a long and varied line of daring explorers, fearsome pirates and brave heroes from all over the world, with the occasional tyrannical ruler thrown in for good measure. But that's a story for another time.?Nowadays, Rachel and her family live a far quieter life on her home island of Guernsey, where she works for two wonderful Guernsey charities. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys reading, playing with her sewing machine, singing Disney songs at the top of her voice, and painting watercolour portraits of people's dogs.
Rachel has a degree in English Literature, and is a freelance editor, proof-reader and disability sensitivity reader as well as doing her own writing. She loves most genres of fiction except horror (she is a massive scaredy-cat who thinks there are enough scary monsters in the real world already, thanks very much). Rachel's favourite novels are Zorro by Isabel Allende and The Prisoner of Zenda by Anthony Hope.?In 2021, Rachel won the Bill Green Award for THE MUSICIAN'S PROMISE SERIES and got to keep a huge shiny trophy on top of her piano for a whole year.
She didn't want to give it back, but sadly it was too big to hide. She is extremely proud to have her name engraved on it and would like to thank YBG Guernsey for their support.
