A collection of 3 stories by Madeline Anians. The Cavendish Pearls takes place in England circa1890. It weaves a mysterious tale of stolen jewelry at Cavendish Manor. With a slight nod to Sherlock Holmes, Inspector Lemont sets off to the Manor to investigate. Once Fresh And New also uses 1890 as the year but moves the story to South Carolina and we follow the Hampton family at the Highacers plantation.
Young Melissa Hampton is trying to follow her mother's wishes and follow the path to becoming a refined young lady. But Melissa has other ideas. The Companion returns to England to tell a tale of a young girl named Jennifer Marks hired by the wealthy Longdon family to look after the matriarch of the family, Lady Longdon. But Lady Longdon is not the most pleasant person to deal with and rules the roost of Longdon Hall.
Her two sons, Robin and John Longdon both find Jennifer to be a refreshing and attractive presence and each develops a romantic interest in her. But as long as Lady Longdon has her way, no one will find happiness at Longdon Hall.
