A partially burned will revealed Alistair intended to liquidate the estate and grant patent rights to Julian, disproving Beatrix's claims of an untouchable trust. In a dramatic confrontation in the Grand Gallery, Clara exposes Beatrix Vale as the murderer.
Beatrix attempts to flee down the service hoist with the genuine will, but Clara jams the hoist gears using a heavy steel pendulum rod while Jonas secures the lift. As dawn breaks and the authorities arrive, Beatrix is arrested.
