The Chalk Girl

Rowie sees the chalk girl every morning outside the train station, creating her beautiful, intricate drawings. Those drawings are the high point of her day; they help her deal with the chaos and uncertainty she has to face at home. Because keeping her drunk, abusive mother feeling like she's in control while making sure she and her two younger sisters have enough money to survive is like walking on a tightrope.
Maybe that's why, when the tightrope finally snaps, Rowie remembers the chalk girl.
