Résumé

Revi Chatterjee-Oswin is a security engineer at Cortrant Financial, a fintech company headquartered in Austin. On an ordinary Thursday afternoon in September, a routine security scan flags something that should not exist: an eleven-month-old unauthorized data connection running from a production database to a server in Frankfurt, exfiltrating data every 47 minutes. The connection is sophisticated, encrypted, and designed to evade detection.
It has survived multiple audits, external pentests, and Revi's own previous security reviews. Which means someone inside Cortrant built it. And someone inside Cortrant has kept it hidden. Revi knows that until she understands who, she cannot trust anyone: not her team lead, not her CISO, not the company's outside counsel. What follows is a methodical descent into institutional failure, regulatory complexity, and the impossible choices faced by a person who has seen something that was not supposed to be seen.
Over the course of four months, Revi will navigate federal investigators, corporate lawyers, whistleblower protections, and her own conscience as she decides what to do with what she has discovered. The Breach is a novel about the people who notice, who document, and who disclose, set inside the real regulatory framework that governs consumer financial data in America.
