Vael - the woman behind the Hollow Architect's legend - has been building a twenty-year plan to restore the dying world.
The destruction attributed to her was not vandalism. It was surgery. The calcified institutions hoarding the ley-lines could not be reformed; they had to fall so something could grow through the rubble. And the restoration she designed requires something the prophecy named long before either of them was born: a Tidewarden at the apex, and an anchor in the deep. It requires Sev. It also requires Sev to believe her.
Which is where it gets complicated. With a convergence event building in the stone beneath their feet and a powerful institutional enemy encircling them both, they have days - possibly fewer - to verify the calculations, prepare the mechanism, and navigate what it means that the woman Sev came to stop has been quietly keeping her alive for three years. The prophecy names one of them the savior. It names the other the obstacle.
It doesn't account for what happens when the obstacle turns out to have been the foundation all along. The Architecture of Ruin is a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers sapphic fantasy romance about two women who are both trying to save the same dying world and disagree, fundamentally, about what saving looks like. It is a book about what we build toward, what we name ourselves in service of a plan, and what it costs to let someone read what you actually wrote - not the official record, but the real thing.
The ley-lines are waiting. The convergence is coming. And the obstacle was always the point.
