Stephen Mast has been sent from his Pennsylvania home to convince his elderly, ailing Uncle Sol to sell his goats and move north to live with family. He doesn't count on meeting resistance from his uncle and from his uncle's neighbor. It seems his mission is doomed to failure, but he is determined to prove to his parents that he can do their bidding. Amanda Swarey is Sol Mast's neighbor and thinks of the man as a grandfather.
She has often helped care for his goats and loves them almost as much as he does. She is determined to help the man keep his beloved animals and stay in the community he does not want to leave. As they spend time together to manage Sol's herd, their sparring turns to teasing, but Amanda senses that Stephen is harboring a secret. Will Stephen be able to confide in her, and can they resolve their differences over Sol and his goats to explore a budding romance?
