Résumé
Venice was a city suspended between water and sky, between shadow and light. The Grand Canal glimmered in the dying gold of sunset, the surface reflecting the palaces as if the city had been painted by some careful, unseen hand. Gondolas drifted quietly, their gondoliers' oars dipping silently into the water, leaving ripples that shimmered like liquid gold. Yet Venice, for all its beauty, hid secrets beneath its cobblestones, in the twisting alleys, and beneath the foundations of its centuries-old palazzi.
Secrets older than the Doge himself, older than the Republic, older than the very stones that paved its streets. For tonight, these secrets stirred. A hooded figure moved along a narrow alley near the Rialto, cautious, deliberate, and precise. Every step was measured, careful not to disturb the subtle flow of energy beneath the city. In their hands, a small golden serpent coiled, its scales catching the fading light and glimmering faintly.
It writhed like a living thing, intelligent and aware, sensing danger and opportunity with every pulse."Patience, " the figure whispered, voice barely audible above the lapping of water against the walls. "Soon, the city will bend to our will. Soon, knowledge will be mine to shape, and Venice will kneel before ambition cloaked in shadow."But Venice was never so easily conquered. From the shadowed rooftops above, two figures watched, hidden beneath cloaks that blended with the evening gloom.
One was tall, sharp-eyed, and precise, his movements deliberate, his gaze unwavering. The other carried a small vial that pulsed with faint light, almost alive, resonating with the city's heartbeat, as if the very energy of Venice answered to it."They are preparing a ritual, " whispered the one with the vial, voice taut with urgency. "If they succeed, the balance of power, of magic, of knowledge itself.
will shift irreversibly."
