Résumé
When the memories of passengers aboard a train traveling between life and death are stolen, one soul must team up with a grim reaper to restore them-or risk being trapped in limbo forever-in this heartfelt and magical fantasy in translation from Korean. Are some memories better off forgotten? When Suhan Cha finds himself on an unfamiliar train crossing a strange-looking river, a young woman is there to reveal the truth: he is aboard the Magic Lantern Express, journeying through the afterlife to the Judgement Gates where he will find peace.
She is Wonjung Lee, a messenger tasked with guiding souls to their final resting place. But before Suhan can even relax with a cup of red spider lily tea, a demon attacks the train-and steals some of Suhan's memories. Without these, he learns, his soul will roam aimlessly for eternity. Suhan has one chance to find what was lost: If he helps three other affected passengers retrieve their memories, his own will be restored to him.
Alongside Messenger Wonjung, Suhan returns to the world of the living to begin his mission, but he soon learns that the only way a memory can be stolen is if the spirit themself wanted to forget it. Now he and Wonjung must discover not only the missing memories-but also what happened in the spirits' pasts and how to help them find healing and peace.
