Résumé

Tarin Holt was never meant to be a hero. He is a common patrol guard aboard the frontier cruiser Vigilant Harrow-the kind of man who checks manifests twice, stands boring watch shifts, and knows every maintenance corridor because nobody else wants to walk them. He has no special bloodline, no secret power, and no grand destiny waiting for him. Then the Kharos Ascendancy attacks. What begins as scattered raids and assassination attempts erupts into a brutal interstellar war of boarding pods, burning convoys, sabotaged ships, and fleet battles across shattered moons.
Again and again, Tarin survives what should have killed him: ambushes in dark cargo bays, assassins in the command corridors, enemy boarding parties, a collapsing cruiser, and a crash landing on an ice moon far behind enemy lines. The crew starts calling him lucky. Tarin knows better. Luck does not save everyone. Luck leaves names on memorial walls. Luck drags the living forward while the dead stay behind.
When Tarin pulls a wounded commander from the wreckage of the Harrow, fights his way back to friendly space, and returns to duty, his unwanted reputation spreads across the fleet. To his allies, he becomes a symbol of impossible survival. To the enemy, he becomes a target that must be erased. But Tarin is still only a guard. And when the final siege comes, when assassins strike at fleet command and enemy ships fill the skies over humanity's last refuge, one ordinary man with a rifle, a habit of paying attention, and too much stubbornness to die may be all that stands between survival and surrender.
