Résumé

A western romance set in Colorado after the Civil War and centered around the lives of three  West Point graduates and follows their lives. Lt. Ben Morgan, who after the war decided he had seen enough of death and destruction. He dismissed his dreams of becoming a doctor and decided to head west to find the peace he had lost since the war invaded his life. He knew there was nothing left back home and felt the only direction to go was west. Captain Luke Hunter, who like Ben, found that the war had also taken much from the life he knew. He like his best friend joined up when the war began, Luke tended the wounds of those who came to the army hospitals.
It was while in a union prison he learned his younger brother Jesse was killed in the battle of Shiloh at the age of 15. Separated from his wife and parents for four years. His only hope now that the war was over was to go back home and hope they were safe and  still there waiting for him. As he passed the homes of his neighbors he saw the ruins that were once fine homes and so any memories came to his mind.
Upon seeing that his home standing, but in need of work like others around him  knew it would take a miracle to restore it. It was then  he decided to find a better life for his wife and parents. A better life out west, west  that was untouched by the ravages of war. They set out for California  by wagon with three hundred other souls, but after stopping  for repairs and supplies in Colorado  Luke felt  it was the perfect place to make a new start.
Little did Luke know that Ben had settled in Colorado a year before and their reunion was one of the highlights of the story. This story not only touches  the lives of  these two, the story deals with the trials and tribulations of the Cheyenne people and the price they paid for their beliefs and to hold on to their lands  And lastly Lt. Col. George A. Custer, brash, arrogant and still searching for that moment of glory and praise.
It's true these three had a pasts from all being at the Point together each following a different path  in the war yet now they were placed together. Though Custer had no love for  either if them   The story follows them, as we get to know the characters, walk in their footsteps and live their lives. We also get see the lives of the Cheyenne people showing the reader a new perspective and show what they - the Cheyenne - endured as well a touching story of loyalty, friendship, honor  and of course love.
It's a romance filled also with history that readers will enjoy
