Résumé

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The Great Plains of North America stretch from the Mexican border to the Canadian frontier. They are semiarid and essentially treeless. They can be a delight for life, or a misery, depending on the weather. #2 The Plains are a windy environment, and the animals that live there are accustomed to it.
The climate is healthy and invigorating, and the grass is abundant. The buffalo provided an apparently inexhaustible meat supply. #3 The horse was introduced to the Americas by the Spanish, and within a few decades was in use by the tribes of the southern Plains. The Indians enjoyed the horses, and when they acquired a gray or brown horse, the first thing they did was to paint the skin. #4 The horse was another white man's innovation that the Plains Indians were able to take advantage of.
The gun gave the eastern tribes great advantages over their western neighbors, and the Sioux were the only Indian nation to defeat the United States in war and force it to sign a peace treaty favorable to the red man.
