Sample Book Insights: #1 The purpose of this book is to outline the basic worldviews that underlie the way we in the Western world think about ourselves, other people, the natural world, and God or ultimate reality. We must understand and then genuinely communicate with others in a pluralistic society. #2 A worldview is a set of presuppositions that we hold about the basic makeup of our world.
It is the basis for all our thoughts and actions. It is not a professional philosophy or theology, but a basic understanding of the world that we all have. #3 A worldview is made up of a series of basic assumptions that are generally unquestioned by each of us, rarely mentioned by our friends, and only brought to mind when we are confronted with a foreign ideology. #4 We cannot avoid assuming some answers to these questions.
We will adopt either one stance or another. Refusing to adopt an explicit worldview is itself a worldview or at least a philosophical position.
