Résumé

You know that inner voice that gets there before you do. The one that says, "Don't say that." "Don't put your hand up." "Don't take up space." "Don't speak up because you'll get judged." Or maybe you experience moments where you rehearse your sentence in your head many times, and by the time it's your turn to say it, you've talked yourself out of it. These are some ways that fear shows up when we communicate and I still experience this, but now it no longer holds me back.
Instead, I speak and show up anyway with fear because I learned that I have a lot more options and are more valuable than fear is telling me. I believe you do too. Speak Afraid is about learning how to communicate with fear while it is still with you in different public settings you need to speak in, so you may connect with the people in front of you, in ways that matter most. It reintroduces yourself to your abilities to break through limitations fear places in front of you, while giving you the opportunity to increase your energy levels as you communicate with a lasting confidence that grows with you.
Change is a frequent occurrence, so the Speak Afraid Method and the learnings in this book are something I come back to every time life asks something new of me. It's because it is a practice that meets you where you are at, and helps you decide how you want to redirect that fear into courage to communicate. This isn't a book you finish and put down. It is one you come back to, the way I still do.
