Résumé

This is book #2 in the Soup Kitchen Kids series and book # 6 in the 'From the Heart Collection'. Markus and Ashley (Pippa) who are twins, along with their parents, Jackie and Brian live on top of the Sunshine Laundromat in a place called Jamestown in Northern Ontario. Tawny, Pippa's best friend and neighbour lives with them. Where they live is not considered the nicest part of Jamestown but it is the cheapest place for the family to live.
One of the central places of Jamestown is the Soup Kitchen where the local kids and others hang out. Pippa had a great summer. Not only are things going well for the family, but they are also the proud owners of a vehicle now, an old orange van called 'The Beast'. All is going well until Tawny's real mother, Isabelle goes missing. When the police are contacted to report her missing, officials then realize  that Tawny is only staying with the Wallace family.
She does not officially live there. Because Isabelle disappeared, Tawny is considered an abandoned child and taken into foster care until they can sort things out. In this book, you can see how people come together to try to bring Tawny home where she belongs with the Wallace family. Soup Kitchen kids live a bit differently. They teach us that lack of money does not mean lack of love, fun or family.
It also teaches us that sometimes family doesn't mean you are related by blood. Family can also be those whom you love and want in your life.
