Sorceress of the Slums

Lynd Raelin is the last of her kind--the mages of Alikh. The Priests of Lutherum, headed by the High Priest, Father Shamash, have slain or enslaved the rest of the ancient order of magic-workers. Hiding in the slums of the city, Lynd dedicates  her  half-formed magical gifts  towards healing the afflicted. But one night, after treating a sick child, the Priests come and Lynd is carried off as a prisoner.
She is then thrust into a game of deception and treachery as she tries to rescue the captive warrior-princess, Lysan, to save both their lives. But enemies are everywhere, and soon she finds she must use powers she never thought she would ever wield--deadly powers that go against all she believes in... A high fantasy novelette of 9500 words
