Résumé
Cara Devlin survived a factory fire that should have killed her. The burns to her arms and upper chest were extensive enough that her own body couldn't provide enough donor skin. The tissue bank could. The surgery was successful. The grafts took. Six weeks later, she begins feeling things that aren't hers. Warmth on the inside of her wrist, in the graft site, when there's no external heat source. Sensation that arrives like touch - comfortable, specific, as if someone is holding her arm.
Then more: images, emotions, the fragmented experience of a day she never lived. A young man's final day. The day he died and became her donor.*Skin Memory* is body horror about cellular memory, grief, and the question of what we inherit from the bodies that become part of us. It follows Cara through twenty days of escalating experiences-the warmth becoming sensation becoming full experiential loops - as she discovers that her donor's name was Joel and that his last day contained something he couldn't finish, something the cells in her skin are determined to complete.
