Résumé

Lula Purdy's voice was like that of a nightingale, or so she had been told by her friends. However, in her small town just outside of New York City in the nineteenth century, there were not many opportunities for her to showcase her talent. So, she made a bold decision to journey out West. With determination and excitement, she contacted a marriage broker and expressed her desire to move to California and share her singing with a theatre group.
After carefully examining several options in the broker's ledger, they finally came across a listing that seemed perfect for Lula. She excitedly leaned over the desk as the broker pointed to Richard Ward's name and exclaimed that he was looking for both a partner in life and for his small theatre in Morro Bay - a coastal town known for its breathtaking giant rock formation off the shore. With hearts full of hope and adventure, Lula and Richard began corresponding through letters.
And soon enough, Lula found herself boarding a train with two packed suitcases, ready to embark on the biggest journey of her lifetime - both personally and professionally - with Richard by her side.
