Mia Tagliaro sees dead people. She talks to them, too. Now attending a new high school, she hasn't shared her gifts with any of her new classmates. It's enough that old friends and her parents know and accept what she can do. It's bad enough having to spend her senior year in the huge high school that has absorbed her smaller one. While attending a mandatory Halloween dance, Mia runs into TC a friend from her childhood.
They met at a camp for psychic kids, but he tells her his gifts are long gone. Cooper, as he now calls himself, says he would like to be friends again. But how can they be when he avoids her? Ready to give up on him, Mia doesn't because his dad appears as a ghost and asks her not to. But how do you reach a boy who not only doesn't want to be near you anymore, but even thinks you're a freak?
