Résumé

Seventeen girls. One academy. Years of rhythm stitched into their bones. Every Saturday, the studio fills with the sharp sound of bells against wooden floors as Vanya Harjit, Avni Gupta, Anya Yadav, Katya Gopal, Rithara Jhala, Mansi Sharma, Ishana Verma, Payal Rajput, Sowmya Shinde, Tanya Kapoor, Trisha Kapoor, Tara Kaur, Lavanya Iyer, Saanvi Joshi, Sneha Deshmukh and Minaal Ellahi step into the world that raised them.
Alongside them is Sophie Smith, who joins later, for she transferred organisations, but somehow fits into the chaos perfectly. Under the watchful eye of Asha Chaddha, a teacher known for warmth, discipline and standards that seem almost impossible, the girls grow up through rehearsals, stage lights, coursework deadlines, care home performances, music-filled changing rooms and the exhausting beauty of Bharatanatyam itself.
But Grade 6 changes everything. The theory folders become thicker. The arengetram becomes harder. The pressure becomes impossible to ignore. And when the academy discovers that their examiner will be the infamous Lyra Lalani, panic spreads instantly. Because Lyra is known for seeing everything. Every hesitation. Every weakness. Every mistake. As rehearsals intensify, friendships are tested in ways nobody expected.
A single sentence from a teacher leaves a wound deeper than anyone realises. Old fears begin resurfacing. Some dancers prepare to leave after Grade 6 while others wonder if they are ready to continue at all. Yet between the pressure and exhaustion, life keeps moving. Katya and Payal fill quiet rehearsals with music that leaves entire rooms speechless. Minaal and Anya turn every stressful moment into comedy.
Sowmya and Vanya practise until rhythm feels like breathing itself. Lavanya bakes when life becomes overwhelming. Rithara, Avni and Sneha say what everyone else is too afraid to admit. The Kapoor twins, Ishana and Tara create chaos everywhere they go. Sophie learns Sanskrit explanations between laughter and unfinished coursework pages. And Payal?Payal notices everything. The structure hidden beneath movement.
The science inside breathing. The anatomy woven through singing. The pulse beneath rhythm itself. Because somewhere between medicine and Bharatanatyam, she begins to realise that healing and art may not be as different as people think. Told through rehearsals, performances, heartbreak, music, friendship and the unforgettable Daksha Yajna production, this is a story about growing up together and discovering who you are when the stage lights finally find you.
A story about dance. A story about strength and triumph on the other side of struggle. A story about people who became family long before they realised it.
